City Marine Dies In Action In Vietnam
Cpl. Ralph Presley Flint Jr. 1, of Winter Street, was killed in South Vietnam on May 28 near Quang Tri when struck by mortar fragments. He joined the Marines in January 1966, arrived July 14, 1966, and had been due home August 14. His mother, Mrs. Lorraine Flint, recalls a poem he sent promising to make her proud. He had recently written from a hospital ship after injuries May 5 from a grenade blast. A 1965 North Hagerstown High School graduate, he worked for Dallas Contractors in summer afterward. He was active as a Boy Scout and newspaper carrier in Hagerstown. Survivors listed continue on page 2.
