Richmond dispatch reports seven federal prisoners escaped from a jail near Thornburg Virginia. State troopers widen the search across the state as Major Ray P. Bishop says a statewide radio and teletype system would have allowed rapid notification and full force lockout within ten minutes. A car used in the escape was found in Charleston West Virginia and another vehicle was stolen there shortly after.
