Social notes show Joseph Ernst and granddaughters Grace and Ora Ernst leaving Clear Spring for two weeks in Atlantic City and Niagara Falls. Many relatives visit from Greensboro, Roanoke, Baltimore, and Philadelphia, with locals attending church outings and trips along the Chesapeake Bay.
A birthday celebration for Miss Kathleen Harbaugh featured dancing and late-hour lunch at the Lafayette Inn. Attendees included Kath leen Harbaugh Lena Ramsey Violet Fleagle Nelly Grove Louise Zaigler Thelma Arthur Hazel Tenny Paul Startzzman Harry McDonald Charles Valentino Pipp Dar ner Frank Bennet Paul Braincard. Also notes a sermon by Rev L A Bush in Williamsport. A humorous aside discusses pigs in New Guinea as a bride price, mentioning installments and clamshell bracelets.
The Hagerstown Shrine Club picnic at Braddock Heights yesterday drew about 400 attendees from Hagerstown and Frederick with Red Fez Club guests. Fat man races and a greased pig contest highlighted the afternoon along with a Frederick vs Hagerstown baseball game won 16 to 14 by Frederick. Dancing, cards, and a 6:30 dinner followed, with 160 dancers and 25 luncheon couples at Braddock Hotel. Committee chair Roy A. Lester led the event with Boke Fiery and others assisting.
Plans for the two week Y Boys outing at Big Pool are taking shape. The camp runs August 1 to 14 with six cabins for 72 boys, led by John Littleton Robert White Charles Barber Edward Nihiser Jack Downin and Wells Little. Prof. Roderick will attend August 8 with a quartet to provide music. Several young speakers are being lined up for the boys’ entertainment.
Little Virginia Middlekauff earned the gold star at the Volunteer Nutrition Class held at Anietnam Street School. She gained one and a half pounds with eye treatments cited by instructor Miss Bolcum. Virginia asked for three extra score cards for her vacation as fourteen attended the session. The all day Thursday Baby Clinic will meet today at the Public Health Building.
Rev John P Horlacher of Philadelphia will be formally installed as pastor of the First Brethren Church of Waynesboro next Sunday evening. The service at 7 30 will be in charge of Rev Dr J M Tombaugh and Rev G C Carpenter of Hagerstown. The former will preach the sermon. Have a daughter Mr and Mrs Daniel Heller of Hancock rejoice over the arrival of a baby daughter born at Washington County Hospital on Wednesday.
Rotarian John S. Porter of Security Cement and Lime Co spoke on Rotary creed in cement manufacture. He said profits measure business success while service underpins it, detailing tight control of chemical content, kiln processes, and meticulous packaging. Attendees included several local and visiting Rotarians and guests from Frederick, Waynesboro, Brooklyn, Washington, Philadelphia and Hagerstown.
The semi annual meeting of the General Council of the Community Client will be held tonight at 8 at the Public Health Building. About fifty members from affiliated organizations will attend. the public is invited to hear reports on six months of Chest work. At Braddock Heights St Pauls Evangelical Church picnicked today with a three-car departure from Washington Square and special park events.
