The Federal Reserve Board noted July would show a considerable rise in the index of industrial production, with gains in the first three weeks of July despite usual seasonal declines. Textile output rose in June, petroleum with six day weeks returned in Texas, and employment across motor, steel, machinery and textiles fell.

William J. Corrigan 29 was sentenced to from four to eight years in the Eastern Penitentiary by Judge Watson R. Davison at Chambersburg on charges of breaking and entering and larceny. He was arrested July 16 while trying to sell cigarettes at a bargain. The court noted his long criminal record from 1925 including larceny fraud fraudulent enlistment and assault and battery.

Stockholm reports Leopold Stokowski, Greta Garbo's companion, left for the United States by train after touring Europe. A separate item notes a $50 holdup at a filling station by a gunman after a car with a pretty woman filled up, while a 13 year old boy yanked the telephone from the wall. Five Belgians were killed and 15 injured when a Liege bound train derailed at Saint Trond station in Limbourg Province.
Senator Millard E. Tidings outlined three remedies in Bel Air to combat over-supply and low prices for farm products: boost business, lower Federal taxes, and recapture foreign markets through reciprocal trade. He argued under-consumption rather than over-production drives farm hardship and urged tax reform based on ability to pay. He noted prior agricultural appropriations aided Maryland farmers and warned against acreage control as a universal fix. Coffee trees provide shade for banana trees in coffee orchards.
Madrid reports a 75 minute bombardment with nine inch shells. Civilians fled as shells struck a cinema on Anton Martin Square killing two men and wounding ten others. A large fire erupted on Gran Via, the main theater district, causing widespread destruction.
Williamson West Virginia July 25 AP Paul Chambers 21 son of Matewan merchant moved from hospital to jail to hospital as prosecutors prepare murder charge in death of Emma Farley 19. Prosecutor Late G Chafin ordered guard at hospital and planned hearing after investigation while Chambers suspected of striking and running over Farley with his car.
Early Saturday fire gutted Patterson's Food Market in the Square at Thurmont with damage about 2000 dollars. A defective wiring in the meat case is believed to have started the blaze. firefighters stopped it from spreading to several apartments above the store.
Scott McCline age 37 of Jefferson street sustained a fractured skull and other injuries when his truck overturned on the Sharpsburg pike near Lapang Sunday morning about 10 oclock. Passenger Leon Koontz age 47 of Liberty street had several ribs broken. Deputy Leister Isanogle said Kline swerved to avoid an approaching car on the wrong side of the highway. Both were rushed to Washington County Hospital. Koontz was discharged later. The truck was badly damaged.
Raymond Mitchell aged 22 was arrested by Deputy Is anogle County Investigator Baker and Constable Shank after a period of search. He waived a preliminary hearing before Magistrate Harry Harsh at Williamsport and was jailed in default of 600 dollars bond for grand jury action. Officers say Mitchell is wanted for larceny of tools from automobiles in the Downsville district and he is also wanted in West Virginia.
County Investigator Clarence Baker and Deputy Leister Isanogle left yesterday for Florida to return Frank Wine, wanted for embezzlement from a liquor firm where he worked as a salesman. Wine was arrested last week and extradition papers were received by Sheriff Max Malott. The officers travel by train. A remarkable tranquillity has descended upon France with the same Premier in place for about five months.
Washington July 25 Jesse Jones chairman of the Reconstruction Finance Corporation announced RFC agents would assist business and industry in obtaining bank loans locally. He said banks should participate in loans and if a borrower’s bank would not participate RFC agents would seek cooperation from nearby banks to secure credit in many sections of the country. Jones urged banks to cooperate with the government lending program to avoid government leads into private industry.
Pearl White, 49, famed early serial star, was reported slightly improved but still dangerously ill from a liver ailment at the American Hospital after a relapse. She had a fairly comfortable night but remains weak and fatigued. An autoside collision near Waynesboro left Herbert Adams’ car damaged when another vehicle struck and fled.
DeQueen Arkansas reports a three candidate race for the county tax assessor in the upcoming August Democratic primary each candidate competing with one arm due to separate incidents. Incumbent Ed Lee Cox, opponent Ed Shipman, and Cathell Hendricks are all armless. all reside in DeQueen along with armless State Auditor Qacar Humphrey.
Ehrlus Kirche, 11, of Baltimore, was found by 100 volunteers and 84 boys at the Salvation Army camp in the Catoctin reservation near Thurmont Maryland. He had wandered from the camp in his sleep and endured exposure overnight, now recovering from the ordeal.
