Troopers patrolling the Denbo mine area on the Monongahela river were fired upon by snipers early today. Captain McLaughlin reported several hundred shots at ten to fifteen minute intervals from multiple directions. No injuries occurred and a house to house search ended the firing.
United Press dispatch from Dallas reports that Earl B. Mayfieth led the Democratic primary for U.S. Senator from Texas with a 25,000 plurality over James Ferguson. Final returns were incomplete, showing about 118,000 votes for Klan candidates versus over 200,000 for anti-Klan contenders split among four rivals.
Washington county election supervisors implement new law changes from the latest legislature. A chief judge of election is created for districts and precincts, sworn in by the supervisors. The chief judge oversees registration, oath taking, and administration. Officials shift from the board to the chief judge, saving estimates and enabling use of public buildings for election purposes upon request. Notices to be published in newspapers only.
KITTANING Pa July 24 Notice posted by the Allagany River Mining Company calls 4000 striking miners to return to work under the 120 wage scale. The plan, proposed by President Harding in talks with union leaders in Washington, would keep wages unchanged if accepted.

Names include H Banks and B Banks of Masontown and H Lewis and Hen Walhof of Brownsville.
Silas Smith, 66, a well known Mt. Zion area farmer, collapsed from heart failure while loading wheat on the Strite farm near Smithsburg. He died Saturday about 2 PM. He leaves a wife, three daughters, one son, two brothers and three sisters. Funeral at New Bethel Church near Cascade with Leonard Flohr officiating.
Samsel J Moraner and Harry T Manning, railroad workers, were sentenced to six months in the House of Correction for carnal knowledge of Vivian Alexander. Their terms began March 8, 1922, and were paroled by the Parole Board on Saturday, announced today.
The Y and MC run a week long camp for high school students at Big Pool. Secretary and Mrs. Breclo supervise the camp with local staff. Water at the pool is reported to be in good condition.

Rail strike disrupts Williamsport road repairs delaying resurfacing on Photo Tide street from the town hall to the Square. Materials and equipment ordered for the project have not arrived, blocking completion. The block is roped off and traffic detoured as a B and O yard shipment moves towards Williamsport.
A collision on the Western Pike near Hagerstown yesterday afternoon between a Stutz driven by Peter McNeal and a Word car driven by R. V. New York July 24 Associated Undertakers say prohibition sleuths will not spare efforts to curb illegal liquor traffic in the city. Dry agents yesterday and today intervened with a hearse bound from Isley to an undertaker, stopping it five times and forcing the driver to open a wicker basket in a bid to uncover spirits.
