Fourteen Injured In Auto Crashes In Maryland
Fourteen persons were injured in multiple auto collisions early Sunday and last night in Washington County. Clarence W. Olden, 22, of Boonsboro, and Paul Reed, 26, of Spruce Street, plus Margaret W. Smith, 28, of Big Pool, were involved in a serious triple collision on Route 40. Olden's car allegedly struck Reed’s, then head-on with Smith’s, leading to Olden's hospitalization with severe cuts and bruises. Reed’s occupants Kenneth House and William Andrews were uninjured. Smith suffered bruises with no hospital stay. other passengers were mildly hurt. Deputy Isanogle said charges would be filed against Olden after hospital release. Seven injuries were reported in the same report.

A truck driven by Clinton R Karn skidded on the Western Pike near the city limits last night, crashing into a pole and injuring Karn, Mrs Eleanor J Nelderhofer, William N Lucas, Robert O Lucas, Betty Lou Lucas, and Mrs Frances Lucas. A child passenger was uninjured. Florence B Bowers of Mercersburg was treated later for a broken rib from a separate crash on the St Pauls Mercersburg road.

Two Fatally Shot In Harlan County
In Harlan County Kentucky two men died and five were wounded in a roadhouse shooting on a Saturday. Sheriff Herbert C Cawood said Simpson Grubbs 41 a World War veteran and coal miner and John Mageard 26 a timberman were killed on the dance floor. Grubbs son Denver 20 was seriously wounded and Dillard Maggard 25 brother of John was among the injured.

London July 22 The Salmon submarine, a 670 ton Shark class vessel, is listed as probably lost by the British Admiralty after being long overdue.
