Non college graduates may obtain enrollment forms for the 1940 summer course at the Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce after July 23. The summer session offers 2250 scholarships in the civilian pilot training program, allocated in units of 5 or 10 to about 225 locations nationwide, including Hagerstown. Selection hinges on a competitive ground school exam ending September 15, with flight training starting October 1, 1940. The alcoholic beverage license of John Edward Exline operator of the Colonial Restaurant Hancock was revoked effective immediately by the Board of License Commissioners this morning. The charge cited selling to minors on June 22 as two minors were found drinking beer with a waiter serving them additional beers during questioning by Investigator J B Huyett and officers. Mountain water to continue supply in Hagerstown
Hagerstown will keep mountain water for a few more weeks even without rain, says Albert Heard. Totals show 52 million gallons in Edgemont and 20 million in Smithsburg reservoirs with daily use around 2.5 million gallons. To conserve, 1 million gallons will be available daily until rain returns, plus about 500,000 gallons entering Edgemont daily. A second pump may be used after 5 million gallons is exceeded. Chemical tests show mixed mountain and river water yields softer water.
