Reformed Church marks cornerstone with outdoor service
The Christ Reformed Church on Franklin Street held an outdoor service marking the 44th anniversary since the cornerstone was laid. Rev Dr Feaperman and church leaders led readings and prayer as builders A R Warner and Carl Warner presented progress on remodeling and expansion plans. The event recalled church history from 1855 with the present building’s cornerstone laid July 8 1894 and a fall rededication planned.

Four Accused Of Robberies In Multi-County Case
Four men Charles Wolford Thomas Emerton Marion Wolford and Elmer Wolfager were arrested on larceny charges after partial confessions. The Montgomery county arrests linked to two cases there and three in Washington county. The quartet allegedly stole meats cigarettes and apparel across multiple sites including Ridenour’s tavern Benevola and Shank service station near Condeocheague. Officers recovered much of the merchandise and restitution was arranged.

Corrigan pleads guilty in theft case in Franklin County
William J. Corrigan 29 of Barking Pa, arrested Friday by Patrolman Jacob Sailor, pleaded guilty in Franklin County Court at Chambersburg to breaking and entering with larceny of 74 packages of cigarettes from Mt. Rock Alling station in Southampton Township. Sentencing deferred. Corrigan also pleaded guilty to assault and battery with intent to kill his wife Lillie Shifflett. Noa Shifflett 22 of Mont Alto was sentenced to two to four years in Eastern Penitentiary and fined $100 plus costs after wounding by Trooper Richard North while fleeing arrest for cutting his wife with a knife. Shifflett testified he did not know what he was doing due to drinking.

Public Health Service Marks 140th Year
The U S Public Health Service reached 140 years but marked the occasion with intensified work. For the current fiscal year it holds 25.76 million dollars in appropriations, plus 14 million annually, 8 million from social security funds for health aid, 700 thousand for cancer study and treatment, and 3 million for control of syphilis and gonorrhea, plus a 750 thousand cancer research center at Bethesda. An assistant surgeon general said the focus is on programs rather than anniversaries. Estimated 20 thousand years since the glacial period ended.
