James Rumsey Bridge Dedication At Shepherdstown
The new 250000 James Rumsey bridge at Shepherdstown was dedicated Saturday with 4000-plus attendees. Federal and state officials attended led by Rear Admiral Russell R. Waesche who delivered the principal address. A ribbon cutting used historic shears once owned by Rumsey. A pageant featured a replica Rumsey boat and a water carnival followed with canoe and motorboat races and swimming events.

Live Wires Trap Five In Machine
In Salisbury Maryland on Sunday five people were trapped in a car for over an hour as live wires sparked. John Cooper of Pittsville was knocked unconscious and removed to a hospital. The crash was caused by a tire blowout that sent the car into a power pole, which was toppled. Passengers Ellen Cooper Laura Foskey and Lawrence Bradley avoided touching metal until electricians cut the power. A small grass fire burned about 100 feet before extinguishment.

Two Are Slightly Hurt In Accident In Maryland
Raymond Be Herbst and Mrs Mary C C Herbst of Hagerstown Route 5 were slightly injured when Herbsts auto struck a parked vehicle on Potomac avenue. Mrs Herbst had a cut lip and Mr Herbst a minor head injury. The driver said he was adjusting a window. he was charged with careless driving. Harold Alexander, manager, reported the robbery to police Saturday at 7 a.m.

State Trooper Killed by Auto in West Virginia
State Trooper Harry Jeffries, 27, was killed two miles from Princeton when a hit-run driver veered into his motorcycle. A posse captured the suspect, Harold Conner, 19, of Princeton within about 40 minutes. Deputy Elmore arrested Conner as Crumpecker said he confessed to driving the car.
