Route 40 paving ahead of schedule on Fairview Mountain
Earl Reed, project superintendent, reports Route 40 repaving about five percent ahead of schedule. The 3.4 mile project began last November and aims to finish by December 1963, with four lanes near the top to aid traffic around moving trucks. The faster pace comes from less rock and favorable weather, with blacktop slated by July 25. Charles Calles notes the top roadbed is nearly complete and upcoming gravel fill will reroute traffic during work on the old alignment.
