Mr and Mrs Laurence M Johns announce the birth of a son at their home in Maugansville on Monday July 11 Mrs Johns before marriage was Miss Freeda Brandenburg Mr and Mrs Roy Ziger of 37 East Avenue receive congratulations on the birth of a daughter at Washington County Hospital on Sunday Mrs Ziger was Miss Helen Barron.
Close contest at Fountain Head course as Fountain Head Country Club defeats Opequon Country Club Martinsburg 16 to 14. Low scores: Lynn Brumbach 93 and Lacy Rice 96. Luncheon served. winners receive golf balls. Next: July 27 one hole match with Waynesboro Country Club in Waynesboro.
The Nine Thirty class of Trinity Lutheran church held their monthly meeting at Scott Minnich's clubhouse in Snyder's Landing. They hosted the church Boy Scout troop with drills by the Scouts, boating, swimming, and games. A supper of baked ham and wieners followed. About 85 attended, including 40 class members and 45 Boy Scouts.
The Yarrowsburg baseball team was entertained at Miss Margaret Poffenberger’s home near Sharpsburg. Greene county Tennessee reduced its tax rate by 20 cents per $100 in valuation this year, lowering the levy for homeowners and businesses and shifting financial plans for local services. The maneuver follows budget discussions and aims to ease residents' tax burden while preserving essential programs.
A pretty wedding was held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Unseld on Virginia avenue last night. Esther Unseld married Charles W. Rickard Jr. in a ceremony at eight o'clock attended by Rev. J. W. Oit and Rev. Charles Birx. The bride wore white crepe and pink yellow bouquet. A reception followed for about thirty guests before the couple left for a western honeymoon.
The Hagerstown Dahlia society gathered Monday evening at Mrs. Nannie Brumback’s home on Funks town hill. Thirty of forty five members attended as G T Starner presented the society’s history. The next meeting will be at Homer C Grove’s home on North Mulberry Street with a flower contest.
A lively evening at John E. Rohr er’s home celebrated his 20th birthday with members of the First Christian Church high school class. Games and light refreshments followed.
Troop 1 led by Mrs. Robert Carder won the Lucky Strike miniature golf match against Troop 2 led by Miss Virginia Keller. Phyllis Baechtel posted 3 to Veneta Lambrose 77, Helen Kaylor 83 to Rachel Miller 93, and the Schlosser twins Jane and Peggy tied with 71s to secure victory. Mary Bond and Evelyn Rolle finished at 72 and 96.
The Potomac Valley Grange of Indian Springs met on Monday evening with an engaging program led by lecturer Mrs. M. J. Henesy. J Homer Remsburg of Middletown Grange spoke on Grange Uplift, and B M Kinsell of Clearspring discussed Cooperation in One's Own Community. Mrs Henesy presented a humorous reading Hard Up, while Mrs Charles C James read a poem Ideals. A duet Sweet Genevieve by Mr and Mrs C James closed as J Albert Funkhouser noted the Spirit of the Grange.

The Wo man’s Christian Temperance Union of Keedysville held its annual outing at Crystal Caverns. A supper of wieners and edibles was provided by a committee led by Grace Buxton Leoda Roulette Louise Eavey Rachel Scheller and Laura Hite. Board of Directors met in the grove and Louise M. Burtner was elected to fill the vacancy left by the death of J A Miller who served forty two years on the board.
Four clubs are ready to begin the new West End indoor season. West Side A. C. meets Lanvale on Lanvale's diamond while Mitchell avenue faces George Street Hubs on George street diamond. A great crowd is expected to attend the opening games.
The South End horse shoe club will host a watermelon party for members and friends on Thursday evening July 14 in the club room on South Potomac street. Admission is free.
An enjoyable evening last night drew members of the Mowen, Knodle, Gibney, Nish, Smith, Eberly, Gilbert, Schaff families of this city to an outing at Rowe's Park along the Conococheague creek. Swimming boating and a picnic were featured.
Charles W Rickard age 20 of Williamsport wed Esther Unseld 18 of this city. Marshall L Stanton 30 wed Ethel K E Lemmert 27 of Frostburg. Russell L Bayler 25 of Lebanon Pa and Agnes Seiter 19 of Pine Grove Pa listed among marriage licenses.
An enjoyable afternoon and evening was spent at City Park for Washington Square M. E. church Willing Workers class monthly gathering. After business, games and a weiner roast followed with prize winners named as William Cosey Rev Edgar Showacre and Warren Roth. Attendees included Mr. and Mrs. Cosey and family and numerous other church members.
At a meeting in the Pythian Castle the Nomads of Avraduka scheduled their annual picnic for Thursday July 14 at Row's Park. They also voted to suspend meetings until mid September. The picnic committee includes Mrs Rama Niemeyer Mrs Iva Stine Mrs Rhoda Barnhart Mrs Elva Strock Mrs Mabel Huber and Mrs Rebecca Russell.
