Outdoor Drama Army Enlistee Huge Success In Beckley
In two weeks of production Honey in the Rock, West Virginia's Civil War outdoor drama, has drawn tourists from 49 states plus the District of Columbia and six foreign countries. Twenty two states were represented on four nights despite rain and weather. The show, in its third season, is shattering attendance records and Beckley area attractions report peak crowds. The Beckley Exhibition Mine built a shelter for crowds awaiting the coal mine ride as Grandview State Park hosts complementary events including three park concerts and the Charleston Light Opera Guild’s Carousel on July 16. Additional art exhibits by Joe Moss and others are planned, reflecting a tourism shift for a once coal-dominated area.
