Wheat prices reach new highs not seen since 1934 as drought fears drive the market. July wheat exceeds 1.10 a bushel with Minneapolis and Kansas City showing sharp gains. Corn prices rise to the four cent limit with July contracts around 0.16 a bushel, while market stagnation persists due to daily fluctuation rules.
In Michigan City Indiana Dr J B Rogers reported an X ray showing a fused base of the brain left the surviving twin with only a single brain shared by the pair. The fatal sister died fifteen minutes after birth. the mother Mrs Wesley Glick accepted the outcome.
The Board of License Commissioners refused two on sale beer license applications, those of Rose Cattillio on West Franklin Street and Helen Cimpella on Ross Street. About 100 residents signed protest petitions, with neighborhood delegations urging denial. Chairman Simpson said the board remains open to protests and will enforce the county liquor law to the letter.

Samuel B. Mentzer, 67, of near Burkittsville, was badly hurt yesterday afternoon when a tree he was cutting fell the wrong way and pinned him. His horse was killed, likely saving his life, and Mentzer suffered a fractured left arm and shock while employed in log removal.
A masked bandit robbed Citizens Bank of South Boston of 1200 dollars. Cashier Arthur Tuck and two other employees were herded into the safe, opened by a bank officer on orders shouted from inside. The three men appeared pale and perspiring as the money was taken. South Boston Va July 7.
Toledo July 7 War ren J Duffey 50 Democratic representative from Ohio Ninth District died today after several weeks illness. He was a strong supporter of the New Deal.
Charles Edward V. Smith aged 25 from Midland Michigan was killed when his plane crashed in flames at Lincoln Municipal airport on July 7. Authorities reported no other injuries. The accident scene is under investigation.

Farmers see strong gains in grain prices as drought tightens supplies. July wheat at 1.10 a bushel noon, September near 1.245, local No 2 garlicky wheat quoted 96 to 98 cents. Positive outlook, farmers holding crop to cash in on higher values amid county output around a million bushels.

Washington July 7 John L. Lewis signaled full speed ahead in a campaign to bring 500000 steel workers into the Amalgamated Association of Iron, Steel and Tin Workers. He charged the steel industry with declaring civil war against unionization and warned that those who break the law would face justice. He named J P Morgan and Company and United States Steel as part of a broader conspiracy, alleging bankers and corporate officials may be held liable for unlawful actions.
In Baltimore, Democrats announce a two week head start on Republicans for the Roosevelt bid. Chairman Joshua N. Warfield says July 17 state committee meeting at the Rennett Hotel will set up advisory publicity and financial groups. Republicans plan a late July launch with national chairman John D. Hamillton visiting.
In Chicago on July 7 Judge Denis J. Normoyle denied an immediate writ of habeas corpus for Eddie Freed, associate of Capone henchmen, who is held for questioning in the slaying of Anudrey Vallette, a platinum blonde playgirl. Freed surrendered yesterday and admitted intimacies with Miss Vallette. police still seek Freed’s wife Ruth Carmella Freed. The writ returnable tomorrow. no charge yet cited.
A concealed toad survived inside a garter snake found in a hen's nest. Fred Faith of Clearspring heard alarm cries from the field, killed the snake, and a live toad jumped free from its body.
New Orleans July 7. Lionel Champagne sugar planter was found shot to death at Gold Mine plantation about 30 miles north of the city. A posse was formed to search for a Negro farm laborer suspected by the sheriff of the slaying.

Washington July 7 Ruth Bryan Owen the American envoy to Denmark would not lose her citizenship by marrying a Danish captain, a point experts cite as the result of a 1922 law change. Her own past loss of citizenship after marrying a British officer helped fuel feminist reform for women to keep citizenship through foreign marriages.
Special Prosecutor Thomas E. Dewey opened a new racketeering inquiry in New York City and planned to consult Governor Lehman about two more grand juries. He hinted the next case is being prepared and referenced Luciano’s vice racketeering conviction as part of the broader effort.

The first Rocky Mountain spotted fever death of the summer occurred in Western Maryland as Mrs. Edgar Shipley, 57, of Mt. Airy, died in a Baltimore hospital from the disease after being bitten by a tick at her home three weeks earlier. The Mt Airy area had notable cases about two years ago.
