Woman killed as auto struck by train at Beard’s Crossing
Mrs Lacin Branchman, 30, of Forrest Drive, died instantly when her car was struck by a Western Maryland train near Beard’s Crossing in Beers Chewaville. Her husband severely injured, both taken to Washington Panty Hospital. Investigators noted the crossing's hazards and that the auto was traveling at a high speed. Railroad crew testified warning devices were sounded. witnesses say the car failed to hear. An inquest was scheduled for the police headquarters this evening.

Bodies Found After Baltimore Ship Fire Toll Rises
Baltimore July 6 bodies recovered from Chesapeake Bay and the Three Rivers shipwreck raise the death toll to ten. Among the victims are five newsboys from Baltimore's Evening Bun band aged 13 to 17, with a white man identified as James Truitt found near Cove Point and a black man later found with a life preserver. Investigations by the Chesapeake and Atlantic Railway Co and U S Steamboat Inspectors will begin this week.

S P O A Benefit Card Party To Be Given July 10th
Arrangements are under way for an S P A card party on Thursday night July 10 at 8 o clock in the Women's Club Auditorium. A large attendance of Society members and guests is expected as games are organized. Prizes have been donated by Mrs. Roger Whinpple, and many tables are already received. Refreshments will be served. The event marks the Society's three years in the community and aims to boost support amid a lull in private card parties. Committee chair Mrs. Franklin P. Canby invites reservations via phone and lists committee members from Hagerstown, Smithsburg, Boonsboro, and nearby towns.
