Council debates enforcement and firecracker ban proposal

Captain Frederick Daniel reported that eight desperate stowaways were found hidden in the hold of the Australian liner Jervis Bay after a stormy voyage. They were captured and confined following the discovery. The crew faced a tense situation as authorities moved to handle the incident.

Auto Taxes Due Early Next Week In Washington County

Auto taxes will be mailed early next week by assistants in the office of Tax Collector Barry M Hartle after delays caused by the Washington County reassessment. About 12,000 automobiles are in the county and collection is expected to start soon. Also, the Hagerstown Realty Company received permits to build four homes in the city on McKee Mulberry Guilford avenues and Frederick Road, two double and two single houses.

Badly Injured in Mower Manifold Incident

Harry L Harper of 816 Washington Avenue suffered a badly lacerated hand when his hand touched the blades of a mower as he removed a weed from its path. Milton Leshér of Clearspring sustained a broken arm and other injuries after falling from a load of hay at the top of a barn.
