Elmer Nave age 27 of Williamsport paid a $50 fine for assaulting Leslie Mason 45 of Williamsport after accusing Mason of killing Nave's dog. Nave was convicted by Magistrate E G Miller at Boonsboro. Nave's wife Margaret was acquitted on assault charges.
During June air enthusiasts toured Fairchild Aircraft plants as rains hovered and temperatures rose. In May the Hagerstown plant hosted sightseeing parties from three organizations and numerous individuals. The Fraternal Order of Eagles convention, Air Scouts and Prince George's County MCA toured plants 2 3 and 4 and viewed a prepared C 82.
President Truman announced John B. Steelman has declined appointment as Secretary of Labor. Steelman prefers his current role as Presidential assistant, and no replacement for the Schwellenbach vacancy has yet been chosen.
The plan estimates 386 295 dollars for street improvements in the one way system. Costs cover resurfacing projects on Pennsylvania Avenue Virginia Avenue and Potomac Street plus signaling and signage needs. The North Avenue stretch to Leitersburg Road would cost about 300000 dollars to modernize.

Charles A. Hinebaugh received a fifty year pin from B. F. Connor Lodge No. 502 at a Western Enterprise Fire Hall meeting. Others received pins and a social followed with Auxiliary participation.
Berlin faces a looming famine as Russians quit the Kommandatura and the Western powers amp up airlifts. Britain and the United States deploy over 200 planes in a peacetime air ferry, with 125 American transports in city by afternoon and British cargo craft promised to double numbers later. Secretary of State Marshall vows to stay in Berlin despite the blockade, while Western powers seek a joint approach with France. In Frankfurt allied commanders urge formation of a western German government, isolating the Soviet sector.
Chicago July 1 The International Harvester Company and the CIO United Farm Equipment Workers settled a lengthy wage dispute after a 35,000 member strike in nine plants. The new contract provides an 11 cent an hour wage increase.
