Baltimore July 1 The State Roads commission may decide which roadside trees to remove in the interest of public safety Attorney General Herbert R O Conor ruled Besley State Forester asked the opinion after trees were cut along the Waldorf Hughesville road in Charles County Besley urged cooperation with the Forestry Department and suggested disputes be referred to the Governors advisory counsel Besley had written the attorney general seeking ruling on the controversy over cutting 111 trees during highway improvement plans
The State Roads Commission will not be impeded by external permit requirements from other state departments when locating or relocating roads. The attorney general urged periodic coordination with the Forestry Department to view proposed plans, noting possible tree-saving adjustments without sacrificing route advantages.

Rome reports Il Popolo d Italia editorial asserts Italy will keep volunteers in the Spanish Civil War and accuses France and Britain of violating the non intervention pact. The piece, possibly by Mussolini, titled Volunteers and London, says 50,900 foreign volunteers arrived in Spain by late 1936.
