Potomac Edison appeals PSC value ruling in rate case

Potomac Edison and allied companies filed in Circuit Court to appeal a Public Service Commission order setting company value for rate making at 15 682 043 as of June 1. The utility contests a higher 26 825 243 valuation and seeks hearing on February 7. The filing notes alleged insufficient allowances for engineering service and capital, and calls for railway and bus properties to be segregated. Nearby firms include Union Bridge Electric Manufacturing, Piedmont Electric Light and Power, and Braddock Heights Water. Samuel C. Dunn cites rising carloadings and a continued favorable rail trend into January.

Yale Economist Dr Adams Ill After Banquet Illness

Dr Thomas Adams of Yale University, who spoke at the Chamber of Commerce banquet in New Haven on January 5, is critically ill at his home. He contracted influenza after returning from Hagerstown and recently relapsed.

Endeavor Society Marks Anniversary with Church Service

The Young Peoples Christian Endeavor Society of Summit Avenue and Baltimore Street observed its founding anniversary at the Church of God. Paul Ridenour led the service with the entire society on the platform. Roscoe Carter and Miss Helen Dorman gave talks on the value of Christian Endeavor and its reach in other lands. Rev J E Barbour of Martinsville will lead the upcoming evangelism services starting tonight through February 26.

Eagles Attend Church in Body at St John’s Lutheran

Members of the Fraternal Order of Eagles joined evening services at St John’s Lutheran Church. Choir led by J Atlee Young performed My Spirit on Thy Care, with Mrs I M Werts on echo organ, Merritt Campbell soloed Enthrone in Light, Rev J Edward Harris urged Golden Rule in brotherhood. Butchering party hosted by B L Yeakle of Indian Springs with many guests from Hagerstown and nearby communities. The piece notes gladiolus production shifting from southern Europe to the United States.
