Jail Fugitive Waives Hearing On Kidnap Charge
Cumberland Md Jan 29 James Melvin Hite 25 waived two preliminary hearings today and was held for Federal grand jury action on a kidnapping charge. He and three companions escaped from Frederick County jail last Saturday after abducting Frederick cab driver Fred Hallford said FBI Baltimore. Authorities search for the other fugitives extended to Gettysburg Pa where Mehri Hobbs was found bound in the cab. Hite was arrested as he left the Bedford Pa post office yesterday. Hallford said Hite signed a statement admitting the abduction.

Tal bott Denhead HI, who helped create the migratory bird laws, will retire from government service Friday just after turning 70 to return to the practice of law. Albert M. Day of the Fish and Wildlife Service praised Denmead as a leading conservationist. his office moved to Chicago in 1942, and he will resume legal work in Baltimore. Denmead helped shape the 1913 migratory bird law and the 1916 migratory bird treaty with Canada to protect birds crossing borders.
