Heavy Night Raid Against Berlin With American Tanks
American tank units under Lt. Col. Louis A. Hammack supported by infantry pressed the beach head south of Rome on January 26, expanding control to eight square miles. Hammack from Blacksburg Virginia led a platoon that destroyed five German Panzer IV tanks, one self propelled gun, two trucks and killed and wounded several enemy troops. Lt.
