Jay Gould dies at 45 a tennis legend of era
Jay Gould 45 grandson of railroad builder and famed court tennis champion died at a hospital after months of illness. At his bedside were daughter Mrs Ludlow W Stevens and her husband as news notes his long career from 1906 American court champion to world title holder. He competed until 1932 and with W C Wright won the national doubles crown in 1932 before illness ended his days on the courts.

Causes of 1934 Baltimore road accidents named
The State Roads Commission analysis lists failure to keep right of center as the top fault, blamed for 17 percent of 1716 accidents. Excessive speed, inter section inattention, skidding, drunken driving, and passing in unsafe conditions follow. Pedestrians accounted for 18 percent of crashes with 137 killed and 159 injured. Daylight driving proves safer. August and September busiest, Sundays most deadly. Collisions dominate, with 1011 auto versus auto crashes and 289 auto versus pedestrian incidents. Officials push garages to report all accidents for record purposes.

Fire Destroys Two Dwellings in Perryville
Fire totally destroyed two dwellings in Perryville Maryland on Sunday with heavy snow preventing spread to nearby houses. Mrs Oakley Gilbert a railroad crossing watchman returned home to find her own house damaged but husband saved much of the furnishings. The blaze spread from an adjacent boarding house owned by Samuel McMuhen used by railroad men.
