Lawmakers were urged to amend the county option statute to empower physicians and druggists to prescribe and administer liquor under the Volstead Act. A second bill would legalize receipt of sacramental wine by churches, and a third considers permitting whisky sales for medicinal purposes, reflecting local calls to ease restrictions.
In Waynesboro Frederick notables oppose the local option law change while church leaders have long sought to remove the county law provision allowing wine for sacramental use. The anticipated bill to localise sacramental wine faces stiff resistance in the Legislature.
The Washington County Library reports its weekly shelf list for the week ending January 22. Titles include Alien-My Rhineland Journal by Bensin Colin, Caine The Woman of Knockaloo, Connor The Gaspards of Proscraft, Warpol Sir John Dering, Gerhardt Anton Teheker, Gresfell Northern Neighbors, Gritte Story of the Walloons, and Hart A Lighter of Flames.
