Survivors Describe Torpedoed City of Atlanta Sinking
Three Savannah men survived nearly seven hours in icy sea after the coastwise steamer City of Atlanta was torpedoed off North Carolina. One crewman died aboard the rescue ship Texas Seatrain. two other survivors, Robert Fennell Jr Offer and George Tavelle, remain hospitalized. Twenty one survivors from the Latvian Ciltraira were later brought to Charleston with two killed and nine more taken elsewhere. The two vessels were attacked by submarines early Monday before heading to port.
