Exclusion of Chinese Senate hearings span multiple interests
Washington Jan 22 The senate committee on immigration heard varied speakers on Chinese immigration. Samuel Gompers opened for the Federation of Labor urging continuation of Chinese exclusion via the Mitchell measure, while Foord urged delaying action and noted China-U S trade data. Others backed the Proctor bill to maintain exclusion until the 1904 treaty expiry. The same hearing also covered Cuban reciprocity with tobacco.
