The Franklin County Commissioners cut property tax rate by a half mill to five and a half mills and fixed the 1933 budget at 285 900, omitting a 76 000 relief appropriation. They pledged to borrow if state aid is not forthcoming while a Cumberland clergyman reports his dog gnaws gum from church pews.
Dr Charles E Brewer head of the Junior Order spoke at a large rally in the region, noting over 5 000 children are cared for educated and trained in homes at Tiffin Ohio and Lexington North Carolina. He described graduation provisions outfits transportation and pledge to God country and fellowmen. Other speakers included Maryland Pennsylvania Virginia and West Virginia officials with music provided by local groups.
Mount Airy Ridge reports visitors and relocations. Harry Gosnell and family from Chambersburg joined Charles Dearfoss family. John Hoffman and relatives moved near Caseytown to live with Mrs. Hoffman's father D. L. Buchanan. Numerous guests called on Thos. A. Pittenger and Mrs. L. Murray remains ill. Stouffer and Myers households hosted several locals.
A list of Mrs. Ray Buchanan and numerous relatives visiting Halfway guests Mr. and Mrs. H. E. Toms, with later social calls among Hagerstown residents. Mr. Charles S. Hyken and son Charles suffer grippe while Mr. Thos. A. Fittenger visits Mrs. Lilie M. Ditto in Washington County Home.
Ralph D. Cook 21 of near Fayetteville Pennsylvania was arrested for killing his cousin Clarence J. Cook 22 in what authorities call a mistaken deer hunt. He posted 1506 bond. The incident happened as both groups prepared to drive deer. Ralph fired twice and the second shot hit Clarence, who died at Chambersburg Hospital the next day.
