First Hungarian refugees arrive in Hagerstown today
The first two of a number of Hungarian refugees resettled in Washington County reached Hagerstown early this morning and stayed with the Lester B. Dannecker family. Bela Moszaras and Karoly Tamos left Camp Kilmer, N Y, and were met in Harrisburg by community volunteers. They spoke of their escape from Budapest after the Hungarian revolt and said they chose America for greater opportunities. The two will stay with the Danneckers until others arrive and most likely be housed in a church-provided dwelling.

Burns Fatal To Elderly Man Near McCoy's Ferry
John Wesley Mann about 70 died from severe burns after his two room frame house burned last night near McCoy's Ferry. He was en route to Clear Spring hospital when the ambulance stalled on Rt 40 near Shady Bower and was transferred to Community Rescue Service of Hagerstown. Fire chiefs said the tiny house was almost destroyed and Mann lay in the snow outside, covered by a blanket.

Fined For Passing Halted School Bus
