He cited Baltimore and Ohio Railroad President Daniel Willards record of reducing annual labor turnover from 25 percent to 6 percent through humane, evenly distributed work, arguing for stability to eliminate poverty and urging Rotarians to support employment stabilization efforts. The meeting also announced plans for King’s Daughters tea, inter city meetings, Ladies Night, and introduced new member Maximilian Wies wetter with various visiting Rotarians from Cumberland Martinsburg Danville Chambersburg Baltimore and Hagerstown.

Shipley boy injured in door pane wrestling incident
Ralph Shipley sixteen son of Mr and Mrs Stanhope Shipley Downsville was badly cut in the right hand when his fist struck a glass door pane during a wrestling match. He was taken to Washington County Hospital for surgical treatment and is expected to stay about a week. Mrs Simon Downey has been ill at her Downsville home.

Baltimore Jan 16 There is an uptick in prisoners across Maryland penal institutions per the welfare board annual report to Governor Ritchie. House of Correction totals for 1928 show 944 men and 72 women, up from 799 men and 69 women the prior year. Women prisoners are all housed there with improved quarters costing 45 580 51 dollars. A new male cell wing at a cost of 700 030 88 dollars has been completed.
