Eyes of Electrocuted Man Give Sight to Two
In Birmingham Alabama a 15 year old girl and an elderly man are slated to receive corneas from William F. Bowen, executed for a 1961 murder. Bowen’s eyes will aid the girl’s damaged sight and an older man’s failing vision at the University of Alabama Medical Center. Bowen, 31, died at Kilby Prison after the electric chair. He had requested his eyes be donated. The girl previously wore down eye vision from childhood injuries. the second recipient is a cataract patient whose vision will likely improve. Bowen’s faith and final words to his minister touched the crowd as his body was prepared for the post execution eye donation.
