Physicians split on whiskey as therapeutic agent in surveys
Physicians from 33 states and the District of Columbia, responding to questionnaires from the Journal of the American Medical Association, largely favored whiskey as a therapeutic agent by a narrow 12 to 11 margin. Beer was deemed unnecessary by about 3 to 1, wine opposed by about 2 to 1. Restrictions on prescribing whiskey were supported by roughly 13 to 7 in 14 states and DC, with New York clinicians nearly two to one in favor of whiskey.
