North American Cement honors safety record with banquet
The North American Content Corporation earned the United States Government Trophy for accident prevention and held a general safety meeting at Security. A banquet at Martinsburg on January 12 awarded the Berkeley Plant a bronze trophy for top safety, after an inter plant contest. W D Lenderking of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad spoke, with A M Tyree of the company giving the welcome. The Berkeley plant led with exemplary records, and the West Virginia plant reported only a single day’s work lost in 1926.

Referendum Sought If Gasoline Tax Bills Pass
Hagerstown attorneys report that if Maryland Legislature adopts gasoline tax increases of two and a half cents a referendum will be sought under the state constitution. Petition plans aim for 10 000 voter signatures to place the issue before the General Assembly. If a referendum is approved the question would not reach a vote until fall 1928 amid Western Maryland opposition.

Five More Yellow Cabs Added to Local Fleet
In an effort to boost efficiency and handle peak business, five more Yellow Cabs are being added to the taxi fleet. The company began with six cabs, later added four due to increased business, and has now placed an order for five additional vehicles. The service started by testing demand and expanding as warranted.
