Funeral services were held in Winchester. J Beaver Atherton aged 80 of Mercersburg died at Chambersburg Hospital after a two week illness. He was a Maple Grove Church of God member and former farmer. He leaves a large family including wife Nancy Ralth Atherton and children in Mercersburg and beyond. services Saturday at 10 am at Maple Grove Church of God with burial in Maple Grove Cemetery. Fire Wreckage Probed Today As Exams Set For College Aid

Fire swept through a block in Hagerstown damaging the West Washington Street business district. The blaze caused extensive damage to the Mage Estown Paint and Glass building and adjacent stores. Firemen fought the flames for hours, aided by water pressure from city mains. One resident suffered smoke exposure. firefighters escaped with minor injuries. Scholarships for seniors and earlier graduates were discussed as exams were set for General State Tuition and Senatorial awards.
