New Orleans police report three bandits captured after the bank robbery. The haul under $114,000 included $65,000 recovered. two others described as the brains of the outfit remain at large. Suspects identified include George W. Ricketts and Tommie Ricketts, with John Hassenback. A suitcase with 35,000 and a 30,000 found in rooms were seized as investigations target the getaway.

Detective Sgt Wayne A Sellman said a verdict of death by own action was returned, and a .38 caliber government revolver was found in the empty car beside Slocum. The body was found by Samuel Mentzer of Hagerstown, a railway brakeman.
The Traffic Survey Committee of the Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce reports some progress in traffic flow since last year. Improvements include a new traffic signal at Lee and South Potomac, better Franklin Street and Cannon Avenue entries for the Hagerstown Frederick highway, widened Walnut Lane, and the Walnut Lane to S Prospect Street intersection. Further signal upgrades are anticipated this year as pressure to act on recommendations grows. Washington January 10 President Truman announced a seminar on the 1949 fiscal year budget and planned to send the proposal to Congress Monday. The plan calls for about $40 billion in expenditures, higher than last year’s $37.5 billion. Budget Director James Webb outlined the briefing as an off the record session until the formal budget message arrives around noon Monday.
