NRA Board to Continue to Operate in Local Area
The local NRA Compliance Board received a letter signed by President Roosevelt authorizing indefinite continuation of its work. Board chair Roger Whipple said most larger local establishments comply with NRA provisions as complaints rise for wage and hour issues. The board will forward necessary information to the code authority or district HQ in Worcester, Virginia, and remains non prosecuting, focusing on guidance and resolution. Also, Robert Henry and Page Level, both 13, of Luray were returned home after being picked up by Sergeant Brown Friday night.

Frank Schaeffer known as the Mole in the Gerald Chapman escapes case was shot to death in Manhattan's theater district by an unidentified gunman in a taxi. Three shots rang out on Seventh Avenue near 51st Street as the cab fled. Schaeffer, 40, had a 23 year criminal history and had previously escaped from Atlanta with Chapman in 1923.
