The first baby born in 1950 at Washington County Hospital arrived at 10 40 p m to Ms Ray Keefer. Born to a Mercersburg couple the infant weighed six pounds 11 ounces and faced blood type issues as the father has positive rh and the mother negative rh doctors had Red Cross blood on standby and will transfuse if needed.
Ten years as pastor of the Hagerstown Church of the Brethren were celebrated for Rev Dr Paul Minnich Robinson. A Sunday evening reception honored him and his wife with a sterling tea service as the church’s "travel fund" surpassed 1500 dollars for a future journey to Palestine. The event featured talks by Warren D Bowman of Bridgewater College Calvert Ellis of Juniata College and J Russell Watcher of the Washington County Ministerial Association. Donovan Heacney chaired the arrangements. devotions were by Carl Myers and YR Rowland. the church quartet and Jean Glosser performed. A four tier cake punch and ice cream were served.
Police on patrol arrested numerous motorists for speeding over the long weekend. Patrolman William Giffin on a motorcycle charged drivers including Gerald F. O'Brien, Roy K. Crily, Robert S. Spencer, P. Malamphy, Waller E. Forsythe, and others for exceeding 30 miles per hour in the city, with several names listed and addresses noted. Patrolmen Wigfield and Frush also charged Omer W. Shank with 20 miles per hour over the limit.
