Training Courses Planned Here At Hagerstown High
War training courses sponsored by the University of Maryland College of Engineering will be held at Hagerstown High School for 16 weeks beginning January 8. Two courses offered basic engineering mathematics and aeronautical drafting and design. Entrance requires high school graduation with two years of mathematics and employment in war industry. Registration at the high school next Monday at 7 pm. Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays 7 to 10 pm for 16 weeks. Dean S Steinberg directs the College of Engineering and Prof W P Green supervises. Applications already made. additional applicants accepted next Monday at registration.

Paper Collection Here Saturday by Boy Scouts
Boy Scouts of Hagerstown and the county plan an eleventh waste paper collection on Saturday January six. About 150 Scouts are expected to collect around 20 tons of scrap paper to aid the war effort. Bundle paper, wrap Christmas wrappings securely, and place on curbs by 8 o clock Saturday morning. Clean rags are also needed and should be placed with the paper but separately.

Maryland's only living Confederate veteran E. Scott Dance will celebrate his 102nd birthday Friday in Towson. A recruiting agent for the Confederacy, he served in the cavalry and fought at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg before being captured by Union forces in September 1864.
