The Treble Clef Club plans a January 9 recital in the Hotel Alexander ballroom with guest baritone Robert Wiederfeld of Baltimore. Wiederfeld, a 1927 National Federation prize winner and Caruso Memorial scholar, studied under George Castellée and spent two years with Eastman Theatre in Rochester. The event follows a season of holiday travel by area residents including Margaret Rohrer and Dorothea Rohrer Rohrer, with several families returning to Pittsburg, Toledo, and WesTerville.
Rev. W P and Mrs Huddle marked the forty fifth anniversary of their wedding in Staunton Virginia attended by Rev W C Huddle pastor of the Williamsport Lutheran Church his wife Mrs Huddle and Rev C M Huddle of Smithsburg along with Miss Christine and Miss Eula Huddle Staunton relatives joined a family dinner after the celebration.
Mr and Mrs Edward L Bach 10 hosted guests in Smithsburg on Thursday. Edna Bachtell Helen Hartle Bernadette Kittie Winters Hugh Warrenfeltz Donald Phette Sam and Archie Winters and Dr Games attended. The evening featured cards and dancing with Christmas greens decor. Warrenfeltz was named winner of the thirty five pound Smithsburg Poultry Show turkey.
Roy Danzer Jr hosted friends of the younger set at his Oak Hill home with a list of guests. Mr and Mrs Melvin Jennings announce the birth of a baby girl. Pangborns entertained guests at Journey's End. Jack Pangborn hosted thirty younger guests at Potomac avenue. WCTU to elect officers at Mrs George Rohrer’s home this afternoon. Seal is home with the grippe. Mr and Mrs David Grossman of Lexington VA visiting Moe Grossman. Edward Schroff returned to Cumberland after holidays. Mr and Mrs Jack Hickey visiting H C Baughman family.
The First Baptist church held annual Student Night with a 30 member Glee Club, Miss Virginia Reed as organist, Leah Eakle on prelude, and Rev. Paul B. Watlington leading the devo tion. Students from Johns Hopkins Towson State Normal Bucknell Augustine Military Academy Hargrave Military Academy Bluefield College spoke on school work and sang, with ushers from Hagerstown High School.
The engagement of Miss Kath leen Stottlemyer to Howard J. Grove son of Mr and Mrs Isaac D Grove of Williamsport was announced at a party hosted by Miss Stottlemyer’s parents Mr and Mrs Edmund Devolt Stottlemyer in Mountain View The room was decorated with evergreens and the announcement was hidden in favors made of apples and gingham Five hundred was played during the evening and breakfast followed The guest list includes Mrs Samuel Adams Mr and Mrs George Doornberger Mr and Mrs Joseph Bearinger Miss Kathryn Young Miss Aleathea Eckstine Miss Madeline Fisher Miss Dorothy New comer John Benedict Richard Nigh Frank Weiderbold Ike Kaplan Mrs N J Brandt Atlantic City Edgar Hamilton Funk Washington DC Miss Vivian Summers Beaver Creek Ross Zimmerman Green castle Miss Leah Leaf Williamsport and Mr and Mrs Doyle Grove of Williamsport.
Miss Catherine S Stehl entertained guests at her home before the breakfast dance at the Alexander Hotel honoring C E Allan of Washington DC. The event drew about 300 attendees from the valley with Bud Codori's Penn Ramblers performing and three dancers from Washington. Vermont spruce decorations were loaned by the Assembly Club.
Mr and Mrs Harvin McFaddin hosted a festive New Year Eve gathering at 34 East Antietam Street with bridge and dancing. Guests included Dorothy Kouitz Virginia Oswald Forrest Mills Harry Draper and many others from Baltimore and local families.

The Ex Hi Y Club hosted a Christmas themed bridge party at the Green Parrot Tea Room with red and green decor. Honors went to Lois Helm Mrs T B Gibson and Virginia Emmert. guest list includes many local names. A second item notes John Cook hosting a party for daughter Rose with friends attending. New Year births announced at Washington County Hospital include a daughter to Mr and Mrs Paul Wade and additional births to Howard Myers Mark Petre and Elmer Law.

Miss Pauline Blackford rural school supervisor will address the Civic League at the Women's Club on Wednesday afternoon. The meeting begins at 3 o clock with her talk on character education in the county schools set for 3 30.
James Findlay will preside. Members are urged to attend and bring friends. Mies Anetts Mow, a 14 year missionary in India, will give a lecture at Welty's Church near Greensburg on Wednesday evening at 7 20 o clock.
