Jamison Cold Storage Door Co. marks its 60th founding week with a dinner hosted by the 34 Year Chit club. Three veterans, W. Bryan Wolfensberger James B. Grossnickle and Fred Cronise, celebrate 30 years of service and join the 30 Year Club with J. V. Jamison III presiding. Festivities include a social hour, program, and entertainment by the Wil Groff Agency featuring Ned Walsh Doris Hart Jack Green and Lola Jay. The event occurs Friday evening at the Venice Restaurant with honors led by J. J. Bean and DT West.

He spent time in Magerstown and Miami since 1922 and had a varied career including clerk work, military service as first sergeant with the 42nd Division, and work as an assistant national bank examiner. Survived by a nephew Dr. Williams Layman and other relatives. burial in Arlington National Cemetery. Funeral services at Norment Funeral Home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

The Magerstown Rotary Club marked Rotary International’s anniversary with a ladies day luncheon at the Venice. Rev. Dr. Neyin Smith, a longtime Rotarian, spoke on Rotary’s role in easing world ill will, as Donald Peterson introduced and led singing. Rotary was founded Feb 23, 1915 in Chicago by Paul Harris. the Hagerstown club began that year.

John Henry Russell, 57, of Hagerstown, died at 10:45 a m after an injury in Washington County railroad yards. He was chief custodian at the courthouse, with 8 years there and 27 years with the Western Maryland Railway, plus six years at Fairchild Aircraft. He was born in Hagerstown and survived by wife Helen, two daughters, a son, brothers and sisters, with funeral arrangements by Rouzer Funeral Home.
