Eight persons were injured when a late night crash on the Leltersburg pike south of Leitersburg involved a moving car hitting two parked autos. Wilbur Minnich 20 of Waynesboro operated the striking car. The parked Swope car had no lights. Heal treated for minor cuts and bruises. Woman Fatally Hurt In Somerset Auto Crash
Somerset Pa February 24 the mother of two Bernice Laden 35 died when an auto plunged from a 30 foot embankment on the Pennsylvania campus. Her husband Edgar R Laden 36 an ordnance engineer for the War Department in Washington D C was critically injured. Children Thomas Ray 6 and Diana 1 were uninjured. Diana was found 15 feet from the car in a snow drift. Edgar Laden remained at Somerset Community Hospital with a fractured left shoulder head lacerations and shock.

Two Autos Burned After Crash Near Frederick Route 406
A crash about one mile east of Cookesville Maryland on Route 406 left at least one person seriously injured. Anna May Oden 20 of Baltimore was taken to Frederick Hospital with a badly lacerated throat. Leo Gosnelle of Baltimore was less seriously hurt. The other car carried a man his wife and three children. Dr. David G. Everhart Frederick physician pulled the occupants from the burning vehicle. Injuries to others not immediately learned.

Three automobiles and a delivery truck were broken into over the weekend with goods stolen. Grover Nutter’s North Foundry street car lost overalls a thermos baby blankets hose underwear groceries from HB Gordon Cypress street four dollars in groceries from E P Clopper near the Pennsylvania freight station door handle broken. Fourteen Iowa youths die in Mississippi River car plunge
Prairiel Du Chien Wisconsin February 24 Bodies of seven Iowa youths were found Sunday in an automobile submerged in 15 feet of water near the Mississippi shore. Authorities feared eight victims as a toll bridge ticket bought but unused suggested more may have been in the car. Names include Vera Cannoe Helen O'Brien Marguerite McMellan Helmer Bakke Lavergne Bakkman Vernon Swenson Norval Rowe. Coroner's inquest heard the car likely plunged after the driver missed a turn near the toll bridge and drove across tracks into the river. No eye witnesses located. The group appeared to have visited several places before mishap.
