Annapolis February 23 State Comptroller James J Lacy reports eight major Maryland tax sources rose sharply in the first seven months of the current fiscal year yielding 24 626665. Period covered July 1 1947 to Jan 31 1948. Compared with 28 525 424 in the prior year. Total receipts from all sources rose to 72 829 962 while licenses alcoholic beverages and inheritance taxes fell. January receipts totaled 9 685 559 up from 5 896 867 in January 1947.

Cambridge Mass February 23 six members of one family perished when flames swept their 16 room Brews ter street residence. George W. Lucas 35 of 600 block North Locust Street was apprehended by Baltimore police and will be returned today. Det. Sgt. Wayne A. Sellman said Lucas is wanted for passing a bad check for 45 dollars to a local taxicab driver. He had been sought since February 17.
