Odd Fellows to rebuild the temple destroyed by a February fire. Plans call for a two story brick structure with basement on the site, with fireproof features and possibly no auditorium. Work to start soon with tearing down rear walls and May 1 expected start for construction using local labor.
Washington February 21 The National Park Service will dedicate the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal parkway by opening Lock No 1 in Georgetown to let the first canal boat move since 1924. Mutt the mule will provide propulsion with the Navy Band and dignitaries aboard. Oscar L Chapman will give the dedicatory address.
The Industrial Electrical Exhibition opened this morning at The Club with 25 manufacturers showcasing devices across more than 800 square feet on the first floor. The Southern Engineering Society hosts displays from firms in St. Louis Chicago Hartford New York Pittsburgh Detroit and Denver. The show runs daily 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. through Wednesday with guest prizes and public registration. Officers include Paul A. Leichel president L R Voris first vice president L M Johns secretary and William King treasurer.
ALBANY Ga feb 21 L W Chip Robert Jr secretary of the National Democratic committee withdrew a 50000 dollar slander suit against State Rep Delacey Allen. He said the action was dropped after asserting his name was cleared and that the move forestalled a possible counter suit and court sequel. Attorney John L Westmoreland commented on the withdrawal and court costs were paid.
Senator Tydings and Representative Rogers urged Congress to appropriate 200000 dollars to buy the Stephen Decatur House in Washington as a memorial to the naval hero famed for Tripoli action and for once commanding Old Ironsides. Rogers notes Decatur’s home sits at Lafayette Square near the White House, beside St John’s Church and the Dolly Madison home.

Snow Hill Maryland February 21 A 12 minute trial ended with a 12 year sentence for William Roy Hyde of Council Bluffs Iowa after pleading guilty to three indictments assault with intent to kill assault with intent to rob and simple assault He shot liquor store clerk David Jones 25 who was wounded and not present in court Jones was taken home from Salisbury Hospital where he had been since February 2 Jones worked at the county liquor dispensary and was shot in the throat.
Maryland records show governors violated the constitution for 50 years. Assistant Attorney General Charles T. Leviness found a law requiring governors to appoint 843 justices of the peace, highlighting the push to reorganize the minor judiciary to reduce magistrates to 52.
The mayor and council disapproved proposed rail rate bills that would raise freight from the south to the north while lowering rates from north to south.
