Railroad Asks I C C Decision On Mail And Express Handle
Representatives of the Western Maryland railroad Railway Express agency local manufacturers and the Hagerstown Chamber of Commerce testified before the Interstate Commerce Commission in Baltimore seeking an early ruling on which agency should handle mail and express service now carried by Trains 1 and 4. The I C C authorized suspending the two trains between Hagerstown and Baltimore last fall to free equipment for defense shipments, and Railway Express proposed taking over the mail and express for all points previously served by the two trains, a plan protested by a trucking group. Two Teens Held in Mercersburg Theft Ring
Walter Hoch 17 and Eugene Reeder 19, both of Mercersburg, are under arrest charged with larceny of corn, chickens, hogs and feed from several local premises. Hoch is in custody of his parents, Reeder in Chambersburg jail, ending an investigation that began last week after about 100 barrels of commissary goods, nearly 200 chickens, two hogs and hog feed were stolen.
