New York February 19. Thirteen people including seven children perished in a blaze that swept a five story tenement at 397 Madison street on the Lower East Side. In Uniontown Pennsylvania on February 19 a 60 year old widow Mrs Mary Dolan was mistaken for a burglar and shot in the abdomen by her daughter Mrs J Wolfe. The elder Dolan died eight days later in Uniontown Hospital. Wolfe was absolved from liability in the dying statement of Mrs Dolan.
Washington February 19 Attorney General Harry M Daugherty denies any fraud in office and says he has no immediate plan to resign. A White House conference with President Coolidge and Senator Borah discussed the matter, with Daugherty offering resignation if Coolidge desired. The president remained silent as Borah pressed for action amid mounting pressure.
