Searchers comb the smoldering wards of Ward's Island state asylum for the insane after a blaze killed 25. Officials and city authorities clash over blame for the rapid spread, blamed on a short circuit from a Saturday blast. Only a horse drawn engine and volunteers aided the effort, delaying city apparatus.
International News Service reports Joseph Rebacki claiming to be a Polish count was held by Magistrate Renshaw in Philadelphia to await requisition from Jersey City on charges of obtaining money under false pretenses with a so called money making machine. He was captured after a chase spanning more than two months through many grates. The machine and a quantity of stones resembling diamonds were also seized.
Representative Will R. Wood tims a formal protest against Senator Harry S. New accepting the Postmaster General role. Wood acts on behalf of Indiana Republicans, delivering the protest to President Harding in Washington.
Edwin Furey, who fled from New York where he faced indictment with Julius Arnstein for attempted larceny of 3 million dollars in securities, was arrested in Boston. He drew a revolver while trying to flee his lodging, wearing only pajamas, on a warrant charging impersonation of a federal officer. Also note John D. Hollyday, registrar of wills, was absent due to illness amid a flu epidemic.
Chicago early today witnessed the murder of Stephen Kelleher, a prominent labor leader, by Daniel McCarthy, business agent of the Plumbers Union, at a restaurant and cabaret where more than 200 guests were dining. A stray bullet injured Mrs. Thomas Golden as patrons fled. police questioned several witnesses and escorted diners to headquarters.

Rolla Spaulding is to go on trial in Toulon Illinois on charges of complicity in the murder of Constable Arthur Smith on June 12. He also faces coroner's jury charges in the torture death of John Schorr whose death diary reportedly reveals events preceding his death. Schorr's mother found the diary with help from a spiritualist who directed her to the place to search. Contents of the diary remain secret.
Senator Owen of Oklahoma pressed President Harding in the Senate for a three month international conference to promote global trade and understanding. He argued that closer worldwide association of nations is now essential for workable economic methods.
An Italian man, Lewis Causa, was arrested in jail this morning after failing to furnish bond to appear as a witness in a circuit court trial. He was fined $20 and costs following a hearing before Justice Halm for carrying concealed weapons. A .32 caliber revolver was found during a jail search conducted by Deputy Sheriff Joseph Davis. Causa waived a jury trial and offered no further remarks. He is a resident of Security.

Large numbers in Limerick pledge to fight no more against the Free State government, while Kerry columns under Commandant Pierce move toward depots for army delivery. Authorities expect a vigorous campaign and possible executions of irregular leaders after amnesty ends.
