Cleveland Ohio February 14 AP Maurice Maschke Republican National Committeeman for Ohio endorses Herbert Hoover for president. He admits limited knowledge of state conditions and has not surveyed party sentiment, leaving the edge between Hoover and Willis undetermined for now.
President Harry E. Bester of the Hagarstewns Fair Association announced the appointment of department superintendents for the upcoming exhibition. Names include J. Kiefer Funk in Horticultural, J. Forney Young in Household, George B. McC. Wolf for Privies and Main Hall, Walter D. Wilson in Racing, Aldinie Lakin in Poultry, Thomas L. Smith in Cattle Hay and Feed, William Cunningham in Machinery, and Isaac Ankeney for Horse Show. The meeting will confirm the tentative state decisions and appoint other committees for October preparations.

LOUIS Feb 14 Col Charles A Lindbergh returned from a goodwill tour declaring that commercial aviation between the United States and South and Central American countries is practicable and feasible He declined to discuss potential effects on relations or promotion of aviation noting he saw no tropical flight hazards greater than those in the United States He said parachutes unnecessary for passenger flight and that the Spirit of St Louis could land safely if needed adding he believes a parachute should be carried where advisable and that a forced landing over water would likely have been fatal if forced to land at sea.
In San Francisco on February 14 The Examiner reports a telephone link between Carl Raiss a San Francisco broker and George Lust a Berlin banker as the longest distance call yet completed They spoke for 11 minutes from their home cities overcoming 6000 miles with clear reception the call cost 360 dollars
Motorists complain of umbrella trees along Cumberland streets obstructing curbside parking and traffic. Pedestrians report low branches over sidewalks causing contact and hazards. Police have been asked to take action to address the overgrown trees.
The trespass case P. S. Brewer Gsell against Otho P. Myers was settled in court by agreement. Mrs. Myers deeded a right of way to Mr. Gsell to a water well between their properties at Clearspring. Attorneys Snyder Wolfinger for Gsell and Harshman Stonebraker for Myers appeared. The Grand Jury yesterday set trial dates for civil suits and disposed of a civil appeal, Cushen Forsythe v J H Graber, with a verdict for the plaintiff of 40 dollars. Eight indictments were returned by the Grand Jury yesterday.
In New York on February 14 the Right Row quotes Bishop James W. B. Darlington of the Harrisburg Diocese, Episcopal Church, urging audiences not to judge by appearance as he comments on flappers and modern dress in society.
Detective Sergeant Thomas Cooper stopped for lunch in a south side restaurant when four bandits confronted him. The leader Charles Green 25 was killed, Edward Smith 23 and Jack Gold 30 were mortally wounded, while the fourth escaped. A bystander Fred Kern was grazed by a stray bullet. Smith and Gold were sought in a prior Everett Coal Company holdup case.
In Indianapolis on February 14 Judge Charles M. McCabe ruled that D. C. Stephenson could testify about the alleged conspiracy tied to Governor Ed Jackson’s criminal trial. Stephenson, a former Klan teacher and life prisoner, sought to consult his attorneys before testifying and was ordered to return to court after a brief conference.

William Hickman was sentenced to death for the Marian Parker kidnapping and slaying. Judge J. J. Trabucco ordered execution for April 27 at San Quentin, unless an appeal succeeds. Hickman showed pallor, then composure for cameras as he left court.
Paris reports two skiers perished in an avalanche near Chanery Sample amid storms across France. Violent westerly gales halted navigation and fishing. ports along the Channel Atlantic and Mediterranean were stormbound. New York confirms a stay of sentence for Thomas W. Miller, former alien property custodian, convicted of defrauding the government by releasing $7,000,000 in war impounded German property.
Newark Feb 4 The Rev Dr Maria Pulson state superintendent of the Antisaloon League goes on trial before Judge Dallas Flanagan charged with libelling three Judges. The case stems from a debate with Arthur Garfield Hays and statements alleging corruption among city judges. Essex grand jury had previously exonerated the jurists.
