In Coatesville and Modena officials pursue the missing 16 year old Helen Mayer as a murder case. Shoes hat and torn school books were found along a road between the town and her home. Mayor Bergstrom asserts a deliberate killing and disappearance.
Halethorpe police report James Brooks, 44, died en route to a hospital after three men who battered him during a home invasion in Lansdowne. Brooks leaped from a second story window to escape. Police say the attackers, known to them, had prior records and the incident followed a tavern fight.
State Senator Abraham Lincoln Helmick, long known for eulogizing the President on Washington's Birthday, breaks custom due to a fellow legislator's death and vows a combined speech honoring both Washington and the President on the same day in Charleston.
Weather Bureau forecast shows cloudy conditions and rain starting late tonight or Sunday. Maryland and Chesapeake Bay expect mild Sunday with winds southeast to south at moderate to fresh strength. In Flint on February 15, 3300 National Guardsmen on strike duty began to return home as two regiments departed by train and motor lorry. About 1000 General Motors workers resumed work at Fisher Body Plant No 1, where sit-down strikers had been inside since December 30. Union members could wear buttons for the first time, and several returning workers still bore the beards from the occupation.
National guardsmen deployed to enforce martial law in Anderson after a morning clash between union and non union automotive workers left at least ten wounded. Police detained thirteen men including six UAW members from Flint Michigan while guards surround the city to restore order. Cars carrying nearly 300 people from Michigan were halted north of Alexandria as authorities sought a square deal amid mounting tensions.
The waters of San Francisco Bar yielded the body of Myron Lorge a 27 year old from Los Angeles among 11 victims of Tuesday night’s United air liner crash. Seven United Air Lines boats searched the bay after midnight finding Lorge near the disaster scene. John Grennan a Berkeley real estate man was found earlier. Coroner Crosby said Lorge died by drowning. Investigators planned to finish examining the wreckage today.
Oshkosh Wis Feb 13 Henpecked husbands at the first convention of the Royal Order of the Dog House faced talk of a stronger kennel door at home as wives plotted countermeasures including a possible women auxiliary. Delegates swapped alibis and returned buoyed by renewed resolve to avoid the dog house.
Detroit reports auto plants reopen as more than 190000 General Motors workers resume duties after a six week strike. In Flint 1800 return, 30000 more Monday with thousands more later. GM raises 5 cents per hour, Chrysler about 10 percent, Packard one cent. Total adds $40 million yearly to wages for about 3 million workers. National Guardsmen prepare to depart Flint after posturing since January.
Commissions for three city election supervisors Harry R. Taylor Lewis W. Zeigler and William P. Rauth and for registers and assistant registers were received from Annapolis. The posts run two terms for supervisors and four years for registers and assistants. Names listed include Henry M. Chaney J Clarence Lochbaum Daniel J. Sprecher and many others across wards and precincts.
Boston February 13 Governor Francis P Murphy urged National and Middlesex Republican leaders to act for the people or forsake the party. He said the party has long represented the favored class and criticized GOP leadership after backing National Chairman Hamilton’s claim the party had lost its pulse with voters.

He is described as the worlds richest man with a wealth of about 2 billion dollars, yet he avoids costly attire to keep expenses down as his subjects applaud.
Leander Peck of Hancock pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting Constable Leister Isna nogle. In city court Justice John D. Dunn sentenced Peck to one year in the House of Correction after arraignment this morning. Attorney Richard H. Sweeney represented Peck. The alleged attack occurred nearly two months ago near Hancock and Peck is said to have fired a revolver during the assault.
Announcement states a permanent Baltimore division Internal Revenue Department branch will open in the local post office Monday. Room 201 will house the office with Allen H. Mumma, previously with Baltimore, slated to become deputy collector here. The move aims to aid income tax payers and Social Security Act payments.
Hamilton Ohio February 13 Benny Hivick defense asks for a new trial claiming a woman juror nodded off during testimony. The motion states the juror was embarrassed by waking and might have been prejudiced against the defendant.
The Flood Relief Bazaar sponsored by the Democratic Organization Clubs of Williamsport opened last night with record crowd attendance. The bazaar runs nightly all next week, with a floor show by The Always tonight as an extra attraction.
Washington County will have 318000 in license fees available May 1 for distribution among incorporated towns. Hagerstown will receive about 11500. The county has 222 licensed establishments, 120 in Hagerstown, with 52 hard liquor licenses and 71 exclusive beer sellers in the city. The board aims to limit issuances, with 58 license applications denied and 45 licenses cancelled last year.
ANNAPOLIS Md Feb 13 The registrations of 135 midshipmen at the Naval Academy including James Lee Johnson Jr a negro of Washington were awaiting action by the secretary of the navy The resignations were requested by academy authorities because of academic failures in the first half of the term begun last fall They were taken to the Navy department yesterday by Rear Admiral David Foote Sellers superintendent of the academy
Washington February 13 Critics in Congress widen divisions over President Roosevelts plan to enlarge the Supreme Court. Senator Clark and Raymond Moler questioned the proposal while administration supporters say 40 to 43 senators may back the measure. House judiciary committee may take up recommendations next Tuesday as bipartisanship persists. Mayors La Guardia and others weigh in on the issue.
Berlin reports three executions at dawn as the headsman’s axe falls on Kurt Stangel of Dresden for high treason and Bruno Busse with Georgs Crammens for non political murders during robbery.

Somerset, Pa February 13. Two janitors from Uniontown testified in the murder trial of state trooper Stacey Gunderman. Prosecutor Margiotti alleged Frank C Monaghan was beaten to death after being questioned about a county detective stabbing. Evidence included mops and brooms tied to cleaning the berillon room at Fayette county detective HQ.
New disorder erupted at Berkshire Knitting Mills in Reading Pa with riots after a night of clashes between pickets and deputies at the Wyomissing plant. A picket was shot in the head during the confrontation though no injuries or arrests were reported immediately.
