Memorial Day plans outlined for Sharpsburg event
Plans for May 30 memorial exercises in Sharpsburg were announced by D W HH Shealy chairman. A larger commemoration is planned with Governor Lane invited to speak at the National Cemetery and a high ranking Army officer expected. Bands and school children from surrounding towns will participate in a 1 30 parade and 2 30 exercises. Local businesses and veterans groups are urged to help finance the event with ad solicitations. Sharpsburg firemen will use fair proceeds to buy street decorations.

A campaign to raise 5000 dollars for Greece relief is announced as part of the Greek War Relief Association drive. Judge Joseph D. Mish is honorary chairman with James Kaliopulos as executive chairman and John Nakopoulos as exec vice chairman. A citizens committee includes Mayor Richard H. Sweeney and Rev. The National Greek War Relief Association aims to raise 12 900 000 for Greece. Over half supports 46 rural health centers 40 mobile units and 474 one room clinics while 3 000 000 funds 375 000 war orphans foster homes. The 1947 child feeding allotment requests 1 850 000. Since 1940 the group has given 25 000 000 in relief and kept admin costs under six percent.
