Slayer Of Girl Widely Sought

Redlands High School pupil Marjorie Lee Winn 16 was fatally shot while in a car near Beaumont California. Volunteers and sheriff deputies hunted a gunman described as 30 to 40 wearing a leather jacket. Gold Star Mother Forced To Pay Rent Bonus

Chicago report says a landlord demanded a $275 bonus from Gold Star mother Mrs. Theresa Cahill before renting her a 3.5 room apartment at 734 Irving Park Road. Rent listed as $64.40 monthly. Cahill’s sons James and Eugene died in 1942 and 1944 respectively. Her son Jack Sr. is disabled from injuries as a former prisoner of war. Government files allege Andrew G. Schneider pressed the note for the bonus last spring. The civil suit seeks treble damages or $825 plus costs.

Federal rent violations carry up to year in jail and fines

Assistant United States District Attorney Jack Welfeld noted in the federal case that conviction on the charge violation of Federal rent regulations carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $5,080 fine.

Food Fair Opens In City Tonight

The National Food Fair and Ex position sponsored by Hagerstown Chapter 149 Military Order of the Purple Heart opens at Market House tonight at 6:30 and runs nightly the third week including Saturday. Local and national merchants set up booths in Market House basement to display products with evening entertainment and a spectator photo contest ongoing during the fair.
