Many Register For Insurance At Reemployment Office
Between 1200 and 1400 unemployed or partly unemployed men have registered at the National Reemployment Office on the second floor of the K of P Building at 18 West Franklin Street Brewer L Stouffer, the local director, announced today. They may file unemployment insurance claims after the new year. Many plan to file but have misplaced their social security numbers, which are required. They should visit the Social Security office on the Grand Building’s fifth floor to obtain numbers. James Sleasman, claim agent for the Unemployment Compensation Board, will receive claims at the Reemployment office. Eligible claimants are those employed by contributing firms with about eight weeks work in the first three-fourths of 1937, ended through no fault of the worker. Contributing firms span industries and most employment classes, though farmers and government agencies are exempt. The maximum unemployment benefit period is 16 weeks, unless a job is found sooner.
