United States condemns Japanese bombing of Manila civilians

Crews of Two Freighters Rescued in Pacific Sinkings
Honolulu reports Naval District Headquarters says 65 aboard two American freighters torpedoed December 17 in the Pacific, with all but 14 accounted for. A boatload of 16 more rescued, nine days adrift. Manini carried 23 aboard and Prusa 4. Twelve Manini crewmen were found earlier in a lifeboat, leaving two missing. Nine Prusa crewmen were killed. 12 picked up from a lifeboat, 17 unaccounted for.

Vessel Lands With Rescued Sailors
New York reports a US ship arriving with 19 Sagadohée survivors after a December 3 torpedoing. Dr Maxson Addresses Washington County Medical Society
Dr Charles W Maxson Maryland director of the National Defense Committee of the American Medical Society told members last night that with the United States forces rising from 1 7 million to 5 million men about 50 000 additional physicians will be needed. He noted 12 600 doctors now serve in the military and 60 000 under 45 are available. A county canvassing committee will seek volunteer doctors with blanks to be sent to the government. Key men will not be removed and industry doctors may be exempt.
