U S gunboat Sacramento carried 280 American refugees from Tsingtao harbor as Japanese armies closed in on the Shantung port. The Sacramento, due in Shanghai Thursday, joined by destroyer Pope and cruiser Marblehead, awaited with 390 Americans said to be there earlier. Japanese forces also held Taipei and Weihsien as they advanced.

British seize Jap cargo salvage from Emden artifacts
British authorities at Singapore seized a cargo of bronze fittings and casings aboard a Japanese vessel on arrival. The fittings were said to be salvaged from the German cruiser Emden sunk near Cocos Island in World War I. Britain claims Emden salvage rights. last October 400 six inch shells from the Emden were removed from a Japanese ship and dumped in harbor.

Two youths aged 15 and 16 confessed to December 11th robbery in the McCardell building on North Potomac Street. They implicated a secondhand clothing dealer, saying they looted clothing and coins and sold some items to the dealer. They gained entry with a key found above the door and will be arraigned for breaking and entering. the dealer was released on bond pending next Wednesday’s city court hearing. Cumberland Uses Relief Bonds for WPA Expansion
Cumberland Maryland city officials invoked 1933 emergency legislation to issue $50,000 in bonds to fund its share of an expanded WPA program. Circuit Judge William A.
